Bathing
One of the most common requests Presidio Home Care receives is assistance with bathing. As we age, bathing becomes more laborious and dangerous. Bathing one’s self requires good sight, coordination, strength, flexibility, and reflexes. Without those physical abilities, the bath or shower can become a dangerous (and even frightening) place. A large percentage of injuries sustained by elderly individuals happen in the bathroom and among those injuries, most happen in the shower or bathtub. Even able bodied people can slip and fall, twist their back, hit their head, or burn themselves in the shower. It is important to exercise extreme caution in the bathroom- especially if you are elderly or disabled.
Presidio Home Care knows how to keep clients safe in the bath and shower. All of our caregivers are trained to bathe clients safely and thoroughly using a variety of techniques that minimize the chance for injury. Whether the client is mostly-able-bodied or bed-bound, our caregivers know how to keep a client healthy, happy, comfortable, clean, and safe.
Each bathroom is different and presents its own set of challenges. Quite often, clients will “make do” with their bathroom without considering the wide variety of devices available that can make their bathing experience safer and more enjoyable. Here are just a few of the common assistive items available that Presidio Home Care can suggest:
• Grab bars
• Tub rails
• Bath stools
• Transfer benches
• Shower seats
• Scrubbing and washing extensions and devices
