Toileting & Incontinence Care
All our lives we are taught to be autonomous with our toileting. One of the greatest milestones of our childhood is the day we “use the potty all by ourselves.” The other side of the coin is that if we lose the ability to take care of our own bodily functions (or lose control of them completely) as adults, it can cause feelings of shame, anxiety, or depression.
At Presidio Home Care, we teach our caregivers to be cognizant of our client’s feelings. Our caregivers are not technicians and our clients are not machines that require routine maintenance. Caregiving is highly personal and requires a certain level of empathy and trust for a successful caregiver/client relationship to develop. Part of Presidio Home Care’s job is to facilitate and nurture the relationship between our caregivers and clients. We want all of our clients to feel good about receiving care. We want them to feel cared for- not that they are burdensome.
All of our caregivers are well-versed in toileting assistance and incontinence care. Each of our caregivers has extensive hands-on experience performing personal care like toileting- so helping with this type of care is nothing new to them. Each caregiver is also trained by Presidio Home Care on the proper techniques to maintain their client’s hygiene and comfort. Whether the client is bed-bound and needs to use a bed pan, wears incontinence briefs, or simply needs a little help in the restroom, our caregivers will help in a professional and caring manner. Their expertise and caring personality will ensure that our clients are kept comfortable, clean, and happy. Needing assistance with toileting or incontinence doesn’t have to be embarrassing or depressing.
